ABA Foods, a company specialising in quality African food products, is steadily gaining popularity in the mainstream markets throughout Britian.
The company produces corn dough and spicy sauces, which are being snapped up by customers the moment they are delivered to over 300 retail outlets across the country. ABA Foods products have an added advantage: they are blessedly free from preservatives. Mothers use corn dough for making baby foods. The sauces are packaged in attractive jars and can be used in the kitchen or on the table. Sheto is a hot chilli sauce with prawns. The vegetarian Black Pepper brand is an extra hot number. ABA Foods was established in 2002 by Betsy Odame-Labi, an enterprising business woman of Ghanaian origin. She has all the necessary ingredients for establishing a successful business: integrity, a highly competitive spirit, and solid business acumen. In Ghana, Betsy achieved fame for her prowess as a redoubtable athelete, who won the 400 metres for women at the National Championships for five years running. She has also won the prestigious Ghana Professional Achievers Award for 2006 for Business. She studied both in Ghana and the UK and is a graduate of BSc in Economics and holder of a Post Graduate Degree in Education. She has lectured in economics at Newham, Stanmore and Southgate Colleges and worked as a analyst in the credit and financial industries. The company's order books are full and new machinery is being put into place to meet the increasing demand for her products. Says Betsy: "My first piece of machiney was created by an Indian manufacturer. I took my designs across to India and they built a system to exactly meet my requirements. That system is still working." Betsy is on the look out for potential business partners, to help her to expand the business. Several other tasty products are in the pipeline. Speaking about ABA Foods, Betsy says: "I strive to provide quality products to customers, without using preservatives." In addition to her busy life, Betsy also works to help Ghanaian traders.
