Minorities lead London's business start-up race
Ethnic minorities form the majority of young entrepreneurs starting new businesses in London, a new study reveals. Research from the London Development Agency (LDA), shows that 42 per cent of the Capital's young business owners are non-white and 13 per cent are non-British white, despite comprising less than a third of the population. London is the centre of attraction for young entrepreneurs, who are breaking traditional business attitudes.

Minorities break through the class barrier
Educational achievements have enabled ethnic minorities from working class backgrounds to become more successful than their white counterparts in obtaining managerial and professional jobs, according to research for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. Children of working-class parents among the Indian, Chinese, African and Caribbean communities are succeeding inĀ  breaking through class barriers.

Plain English Guide to the European Union

The UK Government has published a new pamphlet explaining basic facts about  the European Union (EU). The booklet outlines what the EU does; what the Constitution of Europe Treaty, signed last week, actually means; and how the EU's policies and processes work. The guidance has been praised by the Plain Language Commission for its clarity and concise approach to a complex subject.

The guide is being distributed to libraries across the UK, and is online at:
